Jen and Kieren

New parents and not enough time to organize.

Jen and Kieren are new parents and don’t have enough time to organize. They have a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old. They are very busy managing their kids, jobs, families, and and organizing the home takes a back seat. Additionally, Jen recently lost her mother, feels overwhelmed, and needs order and relief from clutter in her home. Jen and Kieren weren’t sure how to get organized, but they heard Sara could help them get their home in order.

During the initial consultation, it was clear that the disorganized kitchen was causing stress. Cooking, feeding the kids, and cleaning the kitchen took too much time and was frustrating. Sara developed a plan to help them with their day-to-day tasks in the kitchen.

Declutter and Organize

We began by clearing out the cabinets and organizing the items into different categories such as snacks, medications/vitamins, breakfast foods, dinner foods, coffee/tea and mugs, smoothie-making, baking, bulk items (such as paper towels, plastic baggies, etc.), reusable containers, everyday dishes and glasses, pots and pans, and so on. We carefully considered what they usually purchase at the grocery store and what needs to be easily accessible. Infrequently used items were stored in the basement on accessible shelves, freeing up a lot of space in the kitchen for everyday items.

Organizing Products

The kitchen organization heavily relied on products. The cabinets reached the ceiling, so it was easier to store and access items using bins without lids. Clear bins were used to keep items visible and grouped, preventing them from becoming disorganized inside the cabinets. We only decanted items when it was practical, as we didn’t want them to consume too much time every time they returned from the grocery store. We always kept their daily routine in mind and organized everything according to their needs.

Organizing Maintenance Sessions

Additional sessions were scheduled to assess results in the kitchen and make necessary adjustments to ensure the systems work. We also planned to organize the playroom, garage, and basement.

Jen and Kieren are feeling much more in control when using their kitchen. Grocery shopping and cooking is a more enjoyable experience for everyone. They continue to tweak as their kids grow and their needs change. It’s easier to make adjustments now that everything is organized and functional.
