The current weather disasters have everyone thinking about what to do if we lose our home. It’s not something anyone wants to consider. Nonetheless, being prepared ensures the best outcome for your family. While it may seem overwhelming and unattainable, it is possible to organize important documents and be ready in case of a natural disaster.
When preparing for natural disasters, it’s important to start by gathering important documents. Consider the information you might need to save time, protect your assets, and your family, and even save money. You can create a simple plan by committing to find one document each day and creating a pile. Before you know it, you’ll have all your information in one place. Then you can decide what to do with your pile. You can keep it in a safe, or better yet, make it digital. A digital system will ensure you have access to your materials regardless of fire, flood, or threat of evacuation.
Managing a digital system may seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, I often assist my clients in gathering and scanning documents, as well as organizing their digital systems. I hope that none of the individuals I assist ever experience a natural disaster. However, if they do, I find comfort in knowing that they will have everything they need at their fingertips.
I have created a free download to assist anyone in gathering and organizing their important documents in one place. This list serves as a checklist throughout the gathering process to identify the necessary documents. Additionally, I am providing a link to purchase Trustworthy, an online digital document storage system. Trustworthy helps you stay organized and access your documents from any location. Furthermore, family members can also access some or all of the documents you save in the system. This is particularly useful when evacuating or losing a home, as it helps ensure that vital information stays intact.
If you’re not comfortable with digital systems, don’t worry. I can help you get comfortable and navigate the operating system. It’s user-friendly and intuitive. If digital systems are currently beyond your scope, that’s okay. Simply use my checklist to get started and begin the process. Having all your documents in one place is a great way to prepare for any unforeseen events that could potentially lead to you and/or your family losing your home.
