An artist’s studio is a very personal space. Organizing it is not a task for just anyone; it requires an understanding of the artist, their mediums, work style, and essential tools. That’s why, when you choose Sara Jane Organizing, you can be confident that you’re making the right choice for your creativity and your studio.
Why Sara Jane Organizing?
Sara graduated with a degree in Graphic/Information Design and has experience in printmaking, drawing, ceramics, and more. She understands what artists need and how they work, as well as the essence of creativity itself. She recognizes the desire to create, the importance of working at your own pace, and the necessity of having a space that is tailored to your needs.
While a studio may get messy at times—because creativity can be chaotic—it doesn’t have to stay that way. Your space should allow you the freedom to be messy while still being easy to clean up. The clean-up process is part of the creative journey, preparing you for the next burst of inspiration. Don’t let disorganization frustrate you or confine you to a small area.
The Organizing Process
Sara and Erica collaborated to sort and organize the studio. They gathered supplies for encaustic art, collected oil paints, and assembled acrylic paints. Cut paper was neatly stacked alongside painted paper for future collage work. Ceramic pieces were moved to a different area since they were not part of any current project. Finished works of art were organized in one designated space.
Throughout the process, Sara asked Erica guiding questions. “Where or when are you most likely to do this task?” and “What is the most challenging part about this task?” These questions helped Sara understand where items should be stored and how to arrange them effectively. As a result, the items Erica needed were placed exactly where they were required, making them easily accessible.
Sara’s inquiries prompted Erica to view her space in a new light. She became much clearer about her specific needs and was able to customize the space to suit her working style. Sara also asked about items that were either not visible or not in use, which occupied space and had been largely forgotten. This led to the decision to discard certain items, even though they held potential for future art projects. While letting go of something that could inspire creativity later is difficult, an overstuffed space can inhibit the flow of new energy and creativity.
The Results
This process proved to be transformative for Erica, motivating her even more to start on her next project.
Now that Sara has mastered Erica’s style, approach, and decision-making skills, she has become an invaluable resource for her. Erica can call on Sara anytime to refresh the space.
